Bio-Individuality…………. is a term coined by Joshua Rosenthal, founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York, “Bio-individuality means there is a no one-size-fits-all diet, each person is a unique individual with highly individualized nutritional requirements.” Rosenthal applies the concept of Bio-Individuality to diet and nutrition, however I believe that the term can be broadened to encompass the entire healthcare spectrum as it applies to an individual. I believe that you can replace diet in the above definition with any number of words, such as drug, treatment, exercise, food, etc. Every person has specific requirements set forth by their own body for optimum performance in any endeavor. You must realize that these requirements are individualized, that is why I can function perfectly on 6 hours sleep while it may take my wife 7 hours of sleep for optimum function.
These requirements can be changed to a certain extent due to nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress and many other factors. This explains why fad diets or exercises don’t work in the long run.If you are going to change one aspect of your life, you must balance that by changing other aspects accordingly. Let’s look at it this way.If you start a new exercise program you will have changed your personal needs as it pertains to sleep and nutrition. You may need more sleep, or less depending on the activity and you might need to adjust your diet as well.
